Shoe hurled at Ahmadinejad in Iranian city

Smells like Shoe.

Smells like Shoe.

A shoe was recently hurled at Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad while he was in the city of Urmia, an Iranian Web site has reported.

The incident in the Iranian city was an apparent imitation of a similar attack on former U.S. president George Bush in Iraq last year.

Urmia News, the Iranian site, reported that Ahmadinejad was in a car en route to an election rally when the shoe was thrown. Ahmadinejad was traveling to a local stadium where he was meant to deliver a speech ahead of upcoming presidential elections.

You gotta love this shoe throwing thing. Evidently it is a big insult in the Arab world. I remember when the staged event of the Saddam statue was torn down, everyone was throwing shows at it and hitting it with their sandals.

Why Shoes??

“In Arab cultures, throwing shoes is a grave show of disrespect.” —

“The act is an Arab symbol of contempt.” —Christian Science Monitor

“Throwing shoes at somebody is a supreme insult in the Middle East.” —Reuters

“In Iraqi culture, throwing shoes at someone is a sign of contempt.” —Associated Press

Anyway, I see this as a good sign that maybe Ahmadinejad will not be reelected in the next “election” in Iran, and we may have someone that is somewhat sane to deal with. This could be a huge thing.

Anyway until that day comes, let’s watch Bush dodge some shoes.
