Scorsese’s New Film “Shutter Island”

shutterislandposter

I just watched the trailer for Shutter Island, and it looks promising. From IMDB:

It’s 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He’s been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy’s shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything – his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.

Shutter Island is a Martin Scorsese film based on a novel by Dennis Lehane, stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley.

This had better be good because I’ve been a bit disappointed in Scorsese lately due to his support of pedophile Roman Polanski. And although DiCaprio was brilliant in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? , I still haven’t forgiven him since Titanic.

Shutter Island opens in February 2010.

Under the Great White Northern Lights

WhiteStripes

White Stripes documentary Under the Great White Northern Lights premiered last weekend at the Toronto Film Festival to positive reviews.

In Under the Great White Northern Lights, Emmett Malloy has documented the White Stripes tour behind their 2007 album Icky Thump. During the band’s time in Canada, Jack and Meg White visited damn near every Great Northern province. Hence the title of the documentary.

During Malloy’s the Q & A at the Toronto Film Festival, Jack White came onstage and proved what I had already predicted; that Kanye West will be the butt of jokes for a very long time.
